  • Condition: This original cast iron cauldron was created as a string holder to advertise the SSS Tonic that was sold in general stores beginning in the mid 1800's. This tonic is still sold to this day. The kettle weighs almost 3 pounds. It measures nearly 4.75" tall excluding the bale wire handle and measures 4.5" across the top. The wire handle looks to be original. The lettering is raised out from the kettle. This version does not have dots between each SSS. The kettle shows paint loss. The photos show color as a darker glossy black but the paint is really a lighter flat black. Kettle has rust and corrosion inside and out with more rust inside than outside. At some point someone stopped the string hole on the bottom with what looks like a rivet. Three legs on underside are in great shape. There are no cracks or chips in the metal.
