Description
This Early Mickey Mouse costume looks to be one of the earliest costumes from Ben Cooper, based on the appearance of the packaging and the early look of Mickey.Founded in 1937, Ben Cooper, Inc. was originally a Vaudeville and masquerade costume company in New York City, founded by brothers Ben and Nat Cooper.
The firm assumed control of A.S. Fishbach, Inc.—which had a license to produce costumes based on characters owned by The Walt Disney Company such as Donald Duck and Snow White—in 1937 and began selling Disney costumes under Fishbach's Spotlite brand. The two companies formally merged and incorporated as Ben Cooper, Inc., on December 8, 1942.
The 10"x7"x6" illustrated cardboard box contains three-piece "Spotlite Costume" a brand division of Ben Cooper, Inc. c. 1940. Box notes costume size (B 8-10) features images of Mickey Mouse and other Disney characters including Jiminy Cricket, Dopey, Donald Duck, Ferdinand the Bull and Snow White as well as a small image of Superman. .
