The American author, Bret Harte (1836-1902)
, wrote extensively of pioneer life in California, with the short story "Luck of the Roaring Camp" his most often remembered. In this letter of May 16th, 1876, he mentions the corrected copy of "Gabriel Conroy" to be published in England. This was Harte's only attempt at the long novel (Bibliography of American Literature lists the publication date as May 27, 1876). Closing & signature are on the verso.
Condition:
Fold lines, marginal chip upper left, two short pieces of archival tape reinforcement on verso, some toning down center of verso, light soil verso, otherwise very good.
