    Author:
    Hemingway, Ernest
    Title:
Hemingway Signed Book "For Whom the Bell Tolls"
    Description:
    Book Signed
American author. Signed book: For Whom the Bell Tolls. Later printing. NY: Scribner's, 1955. Hardcover, 8-3/8"" x 6-3/4" inches, 471 pages. Signed and inscribed on front free end paper, "To Ben Strauss with best regards and all good luck, Ernest Hemingway." For Whom the Bell Tolls is Hemingway's semi-autobiographical novel of young American soldier in the Spanish Civil War who is assigned to blow up a bridge. The story, which Hemingway devised from his own observations and experiences as a war reporter in the Spanish Civil War, graphically displays the conflict between the desire to live and the desire to fulfill one's duty through the brutality of war. Critically acclaimed and financially successful, For Whom the Bell Tolls is considered to be among Hemingway's greatest works. No dustjacket. Owner's bookplate on inside front cover. Exterior cloth has faded, mostly on the spine, faint dampstain to upper 2 inches and small ink stains to rear cover. Some offsetting from bookplate to front free end paper where Hemingway's inscription is located. Otherwise, the interior is in very good condition with a nice bold inscription and signature.
