Drawing is undated. Measures about 7.25” x 2.25”. Signed Ferd Johnson and inscribed to Robert Hemminger. Drawing depicts Moon Mullins and his kid brother Kayo.
Johnson (1905-1996) worked on the comic strip Moon Mullins for 68 years, first as assistant to the strip’s creator Frank Willard and then as the strip’s author and artist. Johnson received credit for the strip after Willard’s death in 1958.
The strip chronicled exploits of Moon (short for “Moonshine”) Mullins and his pals on society’s lower crust. It ran from 1923 to 1991.
