  • Condition: Good-Very Good overall vint cond: This color litho'd poster shows an elegant young Asian woman, most likely Chinese Singaporean, in a central upright vert window, surrounded by 19 boxes of various boxed drugs & medicines. There's an artist's stmpd sig in both R & B ink. Chop prntd along the R lower edge, w/text in trad Chinese hieroglyphs & some in English above the graphic iconography of the image of the young woman. This pre-WWII vint Singapore advertising poster, was influenced by the Yue Feng Pai or calendar posters which were a famous prod of pre-WWII Shanghai, China. These posters usually feat an attractive, young fashionable lady in the center of the poster, in order to catch the eye of the public, as this one does, along w/both the Gregorian & lunar calendars, peppered w/images of the goods the poster was designed to advertise. Only a slight scratch on the fig's forehead. Not only a terrific Singaporean pre-WWII artifact but a wonderful piece of pharmaceutical advertising. Nice

    Sin Nong Medical Office
    (1866-2012)
    in
    Singapore.
    A block of text under the image of the young, glamorous female model gives a brief introduction of the store's history and information about their specially formulated products. The artist,
    Hang Zhiying
    (1900-1947)
    was one of the leading painters of
    Yue Feng Pai
    and was regarded as the founding father of
    modern
    Chinese
    advertising.
    The lithographed color poster is hinged on the upper portion of the red matboard. T
    here's only a slight scratch on the figure's forehead. Not only a terrific
    Singaporean
    pre-WWII
    artifact but a wonderful piece of early pharmaceutical and medicinal advertising. Very nice.
