    Description

This is a very rare Lyon's Ointment tin with the original red box. The ointment was made Lyon & Co.
in Cincinnati Ohio between 1900  and 1910. Lyon and Co is listed in the Williams directory of businesses for Cincinnati as located at 2000 Kinney Ave in Cincinnati under the heading Proprietary Medicines and I found an ad for them in the Cincinnati Enquirer dated February 5th, 1905.
The box is red with black graphics and shows a price of 25 cents. It measures 2-3/8" x 2-1/8" x 1". In addition, there is tiny print that indicates the box was made by "Allendorf & Co. Box Makers Cincinnati Ohio." The box advertising is great--"A positive cure for Frost Bites, Chapped Hands, Scalds, Cuts, Etc."
The box has some marks and one of the inner flaps is torn off (but present--see photo), but is in great condition given that it's well over 100 years old and is fragile with age.
The tin has a yellow label on top with black graphics. The red label that went around the tin is missing. The top label appears to have been stamped over the existing graphics with additional Lyon & Co information. There is tarnish and surface rust on the tin. I have not opened the tin and do not know if there are any contents. It measures about 2" in diameter and 3/4" tall.
