    Description

Empty cardboard box that held Duffy's Special Anti-Pain Tablets, each tablet containing Phenacetin.  The box is small, measuring 2" x 1 1/2" x 1/2" with a top and sliding bottom.    The only printing is found on the top and based upon the drawing of the bird and woman, as well as the product containing Phenacetin, my guess is that this is from the turn of the circa 1900.  The item was made by John Duffy Druggest, Knorr & Dittman Streets, Phila.  The product was to be used for headache, neuralgic, monthly pains, etc.  Phenacetin was not a narcotic, used in the US in 1887, banned in 1983. In extremely fine condition-no problems to point out.  Only one like it on ebay.
From the internet:  The most common active ingredient in cold pills at this time was
    phenacetin
, banned in 1983 as a carcinogen and for damaging kidneys.
